What Winter Takes Spring Returns

not-quite Journaling, 8

on the bluest sky,
naked limbs weave a poem
to unchill winter

3/7/2021: It is fairly cold outside (just a few degrees above freezing), but the sky is so bright that looking at it conjures warmth that kisses the skin and caresses the bones. All of me yearns for spring, but I’m still pleased with the beauty winter offers. Today, I hope you are healthy, safe, and finding at least one reason to smile and spread the warmth.

Change is a storm of screams
need can turn into music.

3/14/2021: I found this poem bit in one of the 39+5 (because even numbers are so uncool) not-quite-empty journals unburied by my spring-is-coming cleaning. No, I shall not explain why I have 39+5 not-quite-empty journals (and still want to get more and more) because “The first rule of Journal Addicts Club is: you don’t talk about Journal Addicts Club.” Really. Anyhoo, I feel this stitched poem fits my current situation—life is throwing more changes my way, and I must remind myself to make the best of it—and if feels good to share the thought. So, how do you react to change? And how many not-quite-empty journals/notepads do you have at the moment.

The slaughter’d will not survive
on tears, tribute, or revenge.
But the living can
be saved by justice.

3/18/2021: I read a post where someone said “The murder of 8 Asians is no hate crime just a tragedy. They are in my prayers. They won’t be forgotten.” I couldn’t join that conversation (at least not without screaming enough profanity to get my account suspended). So, I decided to share this blackout poem instead, hoping that it might start an exchange between critical thinkers who haven’t completely lost their freaking minds.

: Spring is coming… My plants and I are bursting with excitement! 🥰🌺

After
winter takes
blooms and leaves,
spring comes and gives
more.

3/20/2021: There is something about the first day of spring that makes me smile like a lunatic in love (with growing things). Happiest Spring Equinox, my Luvs. Let us grow!

  1. Love the poem bits, especially a storm of screams turned to music. I have called some of my bits mutant haiku.

    1. I love the idea of "mutant haiku". It sounds so deliciously Frankenstein(y)!

    2. Oooh! maybe we should make it a fun prompt...

  2. Our summer is over in Australia but even winter has its charm as severe cold is not common so the adventurous can head north find the sun's warmth or just stay home and be glad we live in a sunburnt country.

    1. That's the magic of changing seasons... there is beauty in all of them!

  3. I like the journalling nature of these, responding to what is so at any given time. I particularly like the first, being very fond of both bare trees and blue skies.

I don't see how anyone could think that wasn't a hate crime. Wilful denial?

    1. I've been enjoying journaling in poetic bits. It's fun, and actually maintainable.

And I'm right there with you. Only a crazy person--or the purposely self-blinded--can think that was anything but...

  4. I love the opening senryu, Magaly, and can see it outside my window as I type. I’m holding on to the promise of spring, that there will be no more frosty mornings. I also love the poem about the take of winter and the give of spring. The photos of buds bursting are so clear!

    1. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for no more frost (especially, since I just took my plants out to the terrace, lol).

  6. There’s a lovely promise that comes with the arrival of spring; a much needed light in this dark world. You have captured this light so well with both words and images.

And how many not-quite-empty journals/notepads…? Let’s agree to stick with Journal Addicts Club’s first rule. :)

Happiest Spring Equinox to you too, Maga!

    1. That seems very sensible, sticking with the first rule--imagine the horror of having to confess such thing! 😁

  7. loved all your little nuggets of poetry.
sometimes i like to see the original writings of a poem on a page. it can tell the state of mind at that time of writing, what is 'trending' in the thoughts.
i don't see how that murder is not a hate crime. :(

    1. I, too, enjoy seeing where a poem comes from. It's like enjoying the piece twice--through my own point of view, and through point of view of the writer.

You and not alone in your disbelief...

  9. My lawyer has advised me not to discuss the partially used notebooks rampaging, er, I mean living out a free range life, in my home.

I am drinking in all the exuberance of the springy bits. It feel like such a huge milestone to make it to spring this year.

I probably would have had similar issues trying to speak if someone posted such blatant stupidity.

    1. Your lawyer is very wise. I hope you're paying her well. 😁

I think most of us are feeling the arrival of this spring as a personal accomplishment. Now, to hope or summer...

And "blatant stupidity" is a perfect description of that nonsense.

  10. I like your poetic "finds". I have only two unfinished journals...but a bookcase full of finished ones, plus an ongoing never-finished book of quotes. I hope the changes you've mentioned are good ones, well deserved!

    1. I'm extremely envious of your finished journals. I'm terrible at finishing them. I was just gifted a new journal, as an early birthday present, I'm hoping to finish this one. Fingers crossed. And thank you! Only time will tell, when it comes to the changes... 🤞🏽
