Time
never
tames
a
well-fed love,
time
only makes good
better.
Our
first date was wild.
Remember?
You wrecked your car, so
I put
your hand on my thigh and drove
us
around.
Lunch ended with chocolate covered coffee
ice cream, our
mouths learning our bodies,
our
souls finding ecstasy in being one.
Our
first date was wild,
and
the next have tasted even better.

on the anniversary of our first date (June 29th, which is also
the anniversary of our engagement and of our handfasting), my Piano Man and
I have been recreating our first meeting. We ride the same ferry, go to the
same restaurant, eat the same foods, walk in the same park, and end the
day similarly naked in each other’s arms.
We’ve missed the restaurant outings and ferry rides these last 3 years (first
because of the joys of chemotherapy and then because of the pandemic).
But, thank the Universe, nothing can keep me from recreating that yummy day in
poetry… or from ending the day similarly naked
in each other’s arms.

Oh, I love coffee ice cream, and chocolate covered is all the better! Can you believe my youngest, adult, son, never heard of Jamocha Almond Fudge ice cream?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful poem. Quite a wild first date indeed!
I hope he enjoyed a healthily huge serving of Jamocha Almond Fudge the moment he found out.
Delete"A Well-Fed Love" says it all and there are many ways to feed it.
ReplyDeleteYes, sir. :-)
DeleteI thought that first verse said it all. And then the elaboration was so delicious!
ReplyDeleteYay!
DeleteLovely.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteYum!
ReplyDeleteThat's what we say (every time).
DeleteThis is sweet, really sweet. I am going to try and remember the deliciousness you wrote of ... certain I must have experienced it ... at least once.
ReplyDeleteWith a heart and smile like yours, I am certain of it.
DeleteTime only makes good better. I love that. Oh and the chocolate covered coffee ice cream... uhh yeah.
ReplyDeleteChocolate covered coffee ice cream makes everything better, too. Hehehe
DeleteWild is great, especially with chocolate covered coffee
ReplyDeleteice cream!
I can't disagree.
DeleteFor the life of me, I cannot remember the first meal with my husband....nor our first date, for that matter! Your sweet memories make me wonder why my memory is a blank!!
ReplyDeleteI hope you remember it one of these days.
Delete“chocolate covered coffee
ReplyDeleteice cream, our mouths learning our bodies”
I love this poem within a poem. Very evocative.
Thank you! So glad you love it.
DeleteNice one.
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday
Much💛love
Thank you.
DeleteSome meals get better with time. And that chocolate/coffee confection sounds delightful.
ReplyDeleteThey do. And it is.

well you just can't say "love" any clearer than that. this is so well crafted, love that photo too. from 2005 to 2010 i owned and operated a little coffee shop, and i like to think that perhaps lots of romances were born in that cafe, and perhaps still burning bright today. really enjoyed this magaly.
I bed many, many, many love stories began in your coffee shop.
DeleteLove that first date story, it made me remember several first, and only, dates with several, four come to mind, young ladies when it was time for us to be young. Remember well, better than the one with my two Mrs. Jims. Each was WAY different, I loved them too, and how I learned from the variety, but I was TOO young to think marriage, not even with the one with whom I went steady for over a year until her soldier came home from war.
ReplyDeleteIce cream over coffee? I know Coke floats should have the Coke over the ice cream. No ice cream, but coming in after that first date is the part I remember best. I liked the food prompt, Magaly, I am not sure why the growing/eat-what-you-grow part came to mind but I glommed on it.
And then embellished boldly on the truth.
..
First dates tend to be memorable for one reason or another, I think.
DeleteDelicious! and sensual.
ReplyDeletesounds like a pretty wild first date. :)
It was, and it continues to be.
DeleteOh, evocative, sensuous and DELISH! I love how you recreate memories of your special day(s), with both poetry and action. Riding of the same ferry, ending the day in each other's arms and recording the experience to be read over and over again is a beautiful (and romantic) act of a love. <3
ReplyDeleteAnd it is always so much fun. I can't wait for next summer. so that we can do it all again.
DeleteOh girl. I especially like the poetry and the naked part....year after year after....sigh. ;)
ReplyDeleteI do enjoy those bits a whole lot, too. 😁
DeleteWhat a wonderfully sensual poem!
ReplyDeleteThank you. :-)
DeleteYummy!
ReplyDeleteExactly.
