Exposed

 It’s not that I don’t love you
or the wild grace of your limbs
exposed,
it’s just that my bones crave
summer feels.

  1. I'm craving summer feels too. Winter can leave any time, as far as I'm concerned.

    1. Hm... I don't know about that. I never crave winter. And I always want summer.

  3. Your bones and the tree’s, perhaps? Yet how beautiful its bare branches are! I sympathise with your wish for warmth, though; hate the cold myself.

    1. Maybe Nature feels bad for us--for having to make it so cold--so she gives us the beauty of the branches... to make us feel better.

  4. Now I know!! To avoid the snow isn't the only reason snowbirds come here, south, to winter.

  6. Good gods yes, THIS. Every season has it's beauty and winter's elegant starkness is no exception. But dammit I'm cold! Thank goodness for long thermal underwear and coats that go down to my shin.

    1. I just grinned at the memory of your shin-long blue coat.

I'm currently in a snow storm.

  8. I found myself craving daffodils seeing the bulbs shooting their green above the ground.

    1. You and me both! There are some bits of green peeking out of ground behind my building. And I can't denied that I've been staring at it... and sighing a lot.

  11. Although the trees in our garden are still pretty much naked and exposed to the chilly wind and rain, I’ve seen bright green buds here and there that give me hope. I love how you’ve captured that in this poem, Magaly!

    1. We are still to early for buds. But I shall close my eyes and think of the green peeking out of your trees!

  12. I do love the geometry of winter trees... but I also long for warmer and longer days (even if the trees will dress up in green)

    1. "the geometry of winter trees..." That sounds like a poem or story waiting to be written.

  14. "Summer Feels" - there is so much there, Magaly. Thank you for an idea of summer (and what that phrase represents) in the middle of so much snow that we have here.

    1. You are most welcome, Joel. And thank you for always letting us delight in the nature that surrounds you. I truly appreciate the glimpses.

  16. Clever One is always graving for the warmth summer offers

  17. Winter is not so bad when you see what Summer does to wide expanses of Australia by burning trees, crops and wildlife! Mind you our Winters are much like a mild Spring so we are biased!

    1. The world is a mess. In your summers things (and animals) burn to death, in our winters (things (and animals, most often of the human persuasion) freeze to death. Where is balance when we need it?

  18. Love it! This is an outstanding little piece … in what felt like a tanka, to me. And that one word pivot line … beyond awesome … in so many ways!

    1. Wendy, as you often do, you've made my day. I feel the same about the "exposed". And seeing you noticing it makes me happy, happy, happy...

  19. I somehow feel the tree's anticipation of summer as well. Also, though, I wonder about what the tree loves and appreciates about you while craving a new season.

  20. Yes, the skeleton tree has delightful limbs to tease imagination, but it's chill doesn't warm me when I want to dance in the shadows of green leaves.

  22. Bones need a skin as trees need leaves. Spring will not come soon enough. Thank you, Magaly.

    1. Maybe if we call her and really, really, really mean it?

      "Spring, are you here yet?"

Hm... I think she's ignoring me.

  23. I crave it too! California in the winter is very green but I still miss summer.

  24. I feel like the only person left on the planet that loves winter. Growing up in the south, winter is mostly 'light', as in temps in the 40-50 range and snow that if it comes at all lasts only as long as the clouds cover the sun. I'm still waiting for snow to fall here, this season.

    1. You are definitely not alone. In my house there are two--my Piano Man and not-so-Little Princess--who love winter just as much as you do. Their eyes and heart spark to life at the mere sight of snow (while I run in search of a thick blanket, a good book, and hot coffee).
