Of Dying Dandelions and Wishes

After I said something positive about dandelions and wishes, someone told me, “Fluffy dandelions are nothing more than soon to be dead flowers.” And I responded, “No, not really. To me, a dandelion is a collection of wishes waiting to grow real.” I mightve cackled, too (because I am obnoxiously positive *grins*).

the poem (for Poets United Poetry Pantry #492):

You see stings
everywhere,
I see blooming.

That woman (the one you ran away from, while screaming, “But she is full of snakes and needles!”), I see me in her wounds. I run to her, I chant with her, “I’ve made myself out all the wild I have lived.” Through the hurt (or because of the hurt), she smiles at me, she dances with me… and we soothe each other’s stitches.

You see dying dandelions
everywhere,
I see growing wishes.

and 3 not-so-random things (for Khaya’s Random Friday and Blogging Around with Rommy):

1. My dearest Rommy wanted to know if we indulged in goofy little things to get a smile going, on days that are less than awesome. To which I say, you bet your gorgeous, big-haired, vertically-challenged self that I do. My favorite bit of goofy indulgence is dark and dirty (and super-nerdy) humor. If I’m laughing at the horror, then I’m not dead yet. What about you, my Wicked Luvs?

2. Eons ago, when my hands started turning on me and holding a book became painful, The Boy (the most handsome nephew/son/friend of them all) got me an Audible subscription. And I love it. Not just because audiobooks rock *grins*, but also because of Audible Originals. You see, in addition to my monthly credit for an audiobook of my choosing, I also get 2 Audible Originals. Some of the freebies can be… meh, but more often the choices are delicious. Without the service, I probably would’ve missed You do You: Proud to Be Fabulous and Rivals! Frenemies Who Changed the World.

3. On “The SMART Act, Facebook, and My Waist”, I told you about saying adios to my FB profile. I stopped updating it and started a page. Now, I’m seriously considering unpublishing the latter (at least for a while). It’s not doing it for me. It sucks time, and it doesn’t seem to accomplish a whole lot. I might let it go on the 13th

  1. I love seeing wishes in the dandelion puffs. And love your comment to "vertically challenged" Rommy. LOL. I so admire your positivity, kiddo.

    1. There is something extra lovely about dandelions, the way they look so light and fluffy, so full of light… I can never look at one without smiling. They always make me so hopeful.

    2. And the admiration is mutual, your positivity as always fed my own. So, thank you!

  2. I really love your apt response, “a dandelion is a collection of wishes waiting to grow real.” And that woman, I chant her with too. For she taught me how to mend holes. A powerful piece, Maga! Now, I’m going to blow that dying dandelion and make a wish, which I’ll also make public. I’m eager and (almost) impatient for a book of poetry by one of the contemporary poets I admire; the woman in the mirror. Would you be so kind to convey the message to her! <3

About goofiness, your dark and dirty (and super-nerdy) humor sounds like the thing to bring about a smile. :-)

I’m so glad you mentioned Audible, I just subscribed and the freebies offered left me feeling meh. So, it’s encouraging to hear about your great finds. Thank you for sharing this.

What a pity about FB page! But at least, you tested it. And who knows, perhaps it might come handy in the future. All the best!

    1. May all our wishes (of writing and living and reading and more!) come true (and soon, lol!).

I think the lady's gloom and doom approach to dandelions might be signs of a much deeper problem. Our society is getting more and more negative, and cynical in the worst of ways.

Yay! for goofiness that brings grins.

Yes, some of the free Audible choices can be rather disappointing. But there are a few jewels.

  3. Dandelions are most definitely collections of wishes, Magaly, and once we’ve huffed and puffed, the seeds disperse and grow into sunshine! I love the contrast of stings and blooming – even nettles bloom.
Re audio books: they are a brilliant idea and I will be listening to more books while knitting sweaters for my grandson. I’ll still be reading books when I’m not knitting, though!

    1. It's all in the huffing and puffing, isn't it? Those seeds won't plant themselves.

I listen to audiobooks while I'm doing pretty much anything. And I read print books at night, since I need something to hold them for me. And when I super-love a book, I listen and read at the same time. *hehehe*

  5. Such delicious positivity brimming from your words, Magaly!!❤️ I love; "You see stings everywhere, I see blooming." In the end it's all about perspective. Happy Sunday!😍😍

  6. Oh the gorgeous visuals that piece suggests! And the in-your-face joy of existence! I kind of want to illustrate it.

*snicker* That's my favorite kind of jokes, especially when the nerd factor goes in deep and thick.

That reminds me, I ought to see what audio books I can download from the library now. Now that the kids are busy with their respective institutions of learning, I have a lot of organizing and cleaning to do and a good audio book or two sounds like the perfect pairing.

You must kill that FB page. It's following you around like the most unmotivated zombie. Behead it, set it on fire, or tie it to a rocket and blast it to the moon...just be sure to end it if it does not spark joy. LOL

    1. I sooooooooooooooo hope you do illustrate it.

Deep and thick nerdy bits are the best, I am sure.

Yay! for audiobooks. See if you can find a copy of The Poet X. The author's reading of the work is exquisite.

I shall make sure that I murder, um... I mean, unpublish my Facebook page in a human way. Perhaps defenestration. All right, so that might not be humane, but it sounds so cool.

  7. Yes, Magaly, what a wonderful, crisp, pointed and rather beautiful way to capture the dichotomy - which is within all our own choices... and go to the very heart of human psychology...

  8. I see seeds of hope floating to new places to be planted in the rich earth to flower new wishes and dreams.

  9. Stay deliciously positive! I don't find it obnoxious – not when it results in such sweet verses as these about the dandelions.

I found my facebook author page didn't do much. Then I read a useful article on how to publicise oneself as an author, which included the advice (which I took) to talk about one's writing on one's regular fb page and not bother with an 'author' one as well, as it's a useless duplication of effort.

    1. I don't think my stubbornness and I could change that trait, so thank goodness you want me like I am *grins*.

You are, of course, correct about Facebook. I will unpublish the page, and leave the profile inactive for now. If I ever decide to resume updating my personal profile, I will post public posts there. We shall see.

  10. Dandelion puffs remind me of those spherical fountains, a link that makes me happy. Thinking of wishes growing at the same time is doubly joyful. :)

  11. F...ing gorgeous, Magaly! I shall go a-cackling through my day in your honour.

  12. Please, could you introduce me to that woman who's full of snakes and needles? And while you're at it, would you take me by the hand and take me to the place where wishes grow and dandelions never die?

    1. I certainly could, MMT. Please, say hello to Seamstress: https://www.instagram.com/p/BzjFdT5nkOS/.

And I would be delighted to take you to “the place where dandelions never die”, it’s called a Garden of Flesh and Spirit (which we bleed and sweat into being). In that place, eternal life requires constant love and work and determination and so much more. To keep dandelions from dying, one must blow life into every bit of fluff, one must moisten the ground for the roots to take, one must work for it, feed it one's best bits.

So, yes, I could take you there--even by the hand--but once we arrive, only your own living can make your dandelion live forever. Happy ever-bloomings!

  13. I really love the idea of not thinking of dying dandelions but of growing wishes! Much more positive thought, but then again your thoughts are always positive. You always see the glass half full rather than half empty. A thoughtful write that I will think of when I see those dandelion puffs!!

  14. Love ii! It's funny how people views things sometimes. I too see dandelions as wishes, as well as bits of fragile, beautiful whimsy; they make me smile and speak to my inner child.

  15. A girl after my own heart! As far as I’m concerned, there is only one way to look at a cup; half full! Thank you for the recommendations from audible originals.

  16. I love the way to look at the world... some see the hope and some see the dying flower...

To me it seems that woman has listened way too much to Lana del Ray "Hope is a dangerous thing..."

  17. And I look at fuzzy white dandelions as waiting to give birth...floating on the breeze, plantibg itself where the wind takes it.

  19. Love the dandelion wishes. So much positivity, I think, is about finding that 'go-to' headspace … retracing the steps that got you there … repeat.

An awesome construction on this. I don't recall seeing anything quite like it and can imagine it going on and on - mesmerically - for pages … as in BOOK.

  20. I too see a Dandelion mum giving birth. She's quite pleased when I give her a puff and they all float off to grow into dandelons too (AKA Weeds!). It is strange how each of us see the world in such different eyes. You really are an inspiration Magaly.
