Fresh

Fresh
ideas can burst through stagnation’s chain.
Close-mindedness can be struck dumb
by forward thinking.

It’s chic to defy inaction, to do something—
exchange sentient words,
dissect dogmas that prefer the devil they know.

Tradition doesn’t know as many devils
as orthodoxy can lead so many to believe;

to live, to grow, to feed all children
equally,
convention must try new things—
gray skirts, polka dotted pants, rainbow kilts,
and repurposed evening combat boots
might be the thing to keep that old dog
enjoying life-enriching new tricks.

Just think…
and do something
fresh.

  1. As your words suggest, they say there is nothing new under the sun but there probably is a great deal we have not opened our eyes and minds to, to make a better world.

  13. It's time to get out of the old and into the new. And I love that kilt!! I'm in the midst of overhauling and clearing out, making space for new things. And just giving myself room to breathe.

    1. I, too, have been wanting to get rid of some things, to lighten things up. Now that my shoulder is doing better, I might be attacking my closet soon. Fingers crossed!

  15. I read again, neat reminiscing. Not sure that the now generation knows the meaning of the word, "chic".
Perhaps I can publish my comment today?

p.s. My wife and youngest granddaughter walked over to the Today "Square". They have a sign but didn't get shown first panning. Daughter stayed back and is working ""at home" this morning. They are babysitting the next youngest's cat while she is "holidaying" in the Azores. Her apt is in downtown Manhattan so the two walked over.

  16. I think, to stay creative, is to stay happy and alive. Your poem reminds us that not all stuff is use-and-throw. Now where is my old pair of combat boots?
