I
watch his body—hands, arms, torso, head, face—speak to woodwinds, to brass, to percussion,
to strings. Be one with yourself and with all, his flesh and bones say. Be
guider of steps, caresser of ears, filler of hearts. And they are. And he
is… Melody.
like
the sun with blooms,
with
his music, my lover
finger-feeding
souls

there are so many things to dislike (okay, to loathe) about the pandemic
imposed isolation, but watching my Piano Man teaching from home is not one of
them.

DeleteHow delightful it must be to live with a musician – and to watch him share the gift with others. And what a beautiful and clever haibun!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Rosemary. Delightful is the perfect word to describe it. I feel delighted every day.
DeleteNow I understand why you call him your Piano Man, Magaly! What a talented pair you are. I love the way your prose goes from body to sound, ‘caresser of ears, filler of hearts’ and melody, and the image of your Piano Man ‘finger-feeding souls’. Is he teaching on-line?
ReplyDeleteWhen I shared this post, he was only teaching online. Then some of the isolation restrictions were lifted, and he was teaching online and face to face. Now, a student tested positive for COVID so he's teaching only online again--it's a bit of a roller coaster.
DeleteHow lucky you are that you are not tackling the Covid crisis on your own Magaly.
ReplyDeleteI thank the universe for that every single day, Robin.
DeleteLove this so much Magaly and
ReplyDelete"like the sun with blooms,
with his music, my lover
finger-feeding souls"
made me swear with delight at the perfection of it.

Thank you so much, Anna!
DeleteYour comment brought a huge smile to my face. 😁
DeleteHaibunilicious
ReplyDeleteYum-yum...
DeleteA beautiful and luscious poem. In these pandemic times, feeding one's soul is imperative. And how lucky you are to have this melody (and caress) by your Piano Man!
ReplyDeleteI feel lucky and then some!
DeleteThere's a lot to be said for people with limber fingers!
ReplyDeleteA whole lot!
Delete'Caresser of ears" What a sensual thing! There's a kind of thrill in watching a man play the piano whether on a concert stage, near a pulpit or right beside you at home.
ReplyDeleteYes! It's thrilling every time.
DeleteThere's something wonderful about getting to watch the one you love doing something that makes them feel alive. Joy is contagious.
ReplyDeleteIt's magic.
DeleteLove the blooms of sun. I also thought it could be romantic lovemaking poem.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Colleen.
DeleteSuch a tender, loving poem. How blessed to have music in your life on a daily basis. Sending good thoughts to you and your piano man!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the good thoughts. Sending you some right back!
DeleteI so get this! My husband is a pianist and I sing opera--we both teach from home now--it is a pleasure to hear him play at home more!
ReplyDeleteOh, what a fantastic pair you make!
DeleteLove that image Magaly. Being a singer/percussionist for many many years, and having been fortunate to have worked with some superb musicians, who created the rich melody — it is nothing short of magic to be present at those moments when it all falls perfectly into place... it is truly miraculous! Listen to music constantly, and at nearly 74, I still spend large portions of my days, singing quietly, sometimes not so quietly, to myself. Thank you for the feeling of this prelude and haiku, Wonderful writing here. :)
ReplyDeleteThe world is a better place, when we sing "not so quietly" and often.
DeleteOde to your piano man. This is gorgeous
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday
