Bits of October

not-quite Journaling, 20

“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”
~ L. M. Montgomery

 Late
summer looks
much like autumn
springing before nature changes
skirts.

9/22/2021: Of spring, I love the absence of winter and the quickening of new life. Of autumn, I love crazy socks and sassy boots and the nearness of October yum.

9/23/2021: The last of this season’s tomatoes are enjoying a rain-bath. If it wasn’t so windy, I would’ve probably joined them.

Natural
magic lasts,
season after season—
spring, summer, autumn, winter,
spring…

9/26/2021: These are the last blooms of their seasons--the passion flower is the last of autumn, the lily the last of summer, the allium the last of spring. The next couple of weeks will be for repotting and transplanting, then comes the move from balcony to living room. This always makes me feel like autumn is just like spring, but in reverse.

I am
wild ink,
spring whisper,
autumn howl;
I am.

9/28/2021: When I shared this magnetic poem bit on Instagram, I asked, “What are you?” Some of the answers stayed with me. Someone said, “Maybe I am soft twisted upside down, autumn friendly, winter blossom.” Someone else told me, “I’m a crow flying out of a fat orange harvest moon.” You can read the other responses here.

10/1/2021: I was born in April. And I’m rather fond of what it blooms. But my heart belongs to October.

10/3/2021: Winter and I aren’t the best of friends. Frigid temperatures do unpleasant things to my dear joints, snow buries blooms, most growing things (except evergreens, I suppose) grow dull. Sometimes, I think that it must be the reason why I love October (and Halloween!) so much. I mean, what’s not to love about a season that encourages even the dead to come out and celebrate life? Yep, I am pretty sure that without the sweet and warm jubilation October brews, my heart would turn to ice in the winter months. I know, a tad melodramatic. Blame it on winter.

  4. I just picked up some marigolds at the garden center. Their pop of color will be welcome as we settle into the colder season. I've learned to appreciate every season, even winter, with my tea studies (several old tea masters loved winter best), but autumn is easy to love.

    1. Ooh! I hope you share pictures of your new blooms. I haven't gotten anything new, but the gloriosa daisy is blooming again and the scabiosa has blessed my wee garden with a new bloom or two. I'm enjoying them while they last.

  5. This was nice, Magaly.  The read and the form.

I wish I were more of a wild ink, but people are looking over my shoulder. I.e. people not of this group know and read me.

Pictures, all nice.  I love your little white pigs.

Form my FHA high school project I raised two liters of pigs, one year Mama Hog had eight and the next nine.  They were like pets and roamed the farmyard.  When they would find me they followed me until I went where they couldn't go."

  6. I love
    "in autumn
    I harvest warm thoughts
    for winter"
My last daylily just bloomed yesterday, a May May.
Warm socks and slippers are my favorite season!

    1. The day lilies around here are now seedpods. I've been keeping an eye on them, in order to collect some seeds for next year. Fingers crossed, right?

So glad you love the haiku.

  8. Magaly, I love your 'journaling' poetry ... I believe these are my 'most favorite' EVER. The sweetness, the honesty, the humor. Winter is not my friend as well. Raynoud's makes the slightest downward shift in temperature awful. Stay warm, pull on the fuzzy crazy socks and hunker down.

    1. I didn't know a thing about Raynaud's, so I went and looked it up. Oh, Helen, it sounds terrible. Stay warm!

I am February born. Luv the unconventional aspect of MY month.
Loving December because of the Christmas. October: met my husband my one true love, he is October born; my granddaughter too is October born.

    Much💜love

  13. I love this entire post! Such beautiful images and words.

I asked, “What are you?” I think. I am the ragged-headed marigold seed pod content in knowing my seeds will continue to grow to many generation.
